On Thursday 8 September, Peter Sams competed in the Queensland Young Lawyers’ “Golden Gavel” Comedy Competition.
This year’s “Golden Gavel” competition saw Queensland’s funniest young solicitors and barristers tasked with impressing their audience in five minutes, speaking on a far-fetched legal topic. Previous topics have included, “Practicing in Foreign Jurisdictions: Life Outside Eagle Street” and “Australia Hits 25 million…Law Graduates: Top Tips for Nailing That Interview”. Peter spoke on the subject, “House of Dragons: Litigating in the Magistrates Court” and was awarded first place by competition judges Florence Chen, Steven Hogg and Stephanie Forward-Smith.
As the winner, Peter will go on to represent Queensland in the Law Council of Australia’s National Golden Gavel competition.
